The Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica of Universidad Nacional (OVSICORI-UNA), is offering a position for a geophysicist specialized in crustal deformation.
The successful candidate will acquire, process and analyze GNSS and InSAR time series to correlate them with the processes occurring in the five active volcanoes as well as with the tectonic activity. He/she will collaborate with the team to develop statistical methodology to reveal subtle earth signal in the GNSS and InSAR time series as well as using numerical models to verify the nature of the signal. He/she will also be involved in the maintenance/construction of the cGNSS network and in the geodetic survey all over the country (GPS,UAV based photogrammetry ).
The position is for an initial period of one or two years, starting January 2018. The salary is between 21.000 and 33.000 USD/year depending on credentials.
Applicants should have at least a Master degree in a relevant field. Experience with geophysical processes (volcanology, tectonic, subduction zone). Good skills to work within a multi disciplinary team. Good programming skills in languages such as Python, Matlab, PhP, HTML, Julia, C, Fortran. An excellent physical condition (working several hours at more than 3000 m a.m.s.l. in tropical humid weather) and be able to work extra hours in a flexible schedule during emergencies and for the requirement of the project. Driving license B1. English skills required, Spanish is a plus.
