Please consider submitting your AGU abstracts to the following session (https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm17/preliminaryview.cgi/Session2 2346) for the fall AGU meeting in New Orleans from 11-15 December. The abstract deadline is 2 August.
Session: V003 Conduit and surface dynamics of silicic magmas and lavas
Session ID#: 22346
Session Description: The dynamics of silicic magmas during conduit ascent and effusion are controlled by diverse intensive, extensive, and mechanical parameters. During conduit ascent, those parameters control explosivity, or lack thereof. They also must vary greatly between effusive eruptions; from small, steep domes to extensive, large-volume flows. Recent eruptions in Chile and advances in experimental techniques have produced quantitative constraints on the interplay between rheology, permeability, degassing in silicic magmas. We seek submissions that explore the behavior of pre-fragmentation silicic magmas by investigating the timescales, physical conditions, and mechanical-temporal aspects ongoing during conduit ascent and effusive emplacement.
Conveners: Graham Andrews (West Virginia), Kenneth Befus (Baylor), and Alan Whittington (Missouri)
