Postdoctoral/Assistant Scientist Position in Volcanology/Space Geodesy

The Department of Marine Geosciences (MGS) at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) at the University of Miami, Florida invites applications for a NASA-funded position to study rainfall triggering of volcanic eruptions. The appointee will (1) correlate historic precipitation records with eruption catalogues to identify triggered eruptions, (2) use finite element modeling methods to study the effect of precipitation on volcanic systems, and (3) conduct case studies of rainfall-triggered eruptions using observations of NASA’s Global Precipitation Measurement Mission (GPM) and of orbiting InSAR satellites. This project is part of a broader effort to develop an operational methodology for eruption forecasting using the NASA-ISRO NISAR mission to be launched in 2021. The position is available at Postdoctoral or Assistant Scientist level, depending on qualifications. A PhD in volcanology, geophysics or meteorology is required. This is a 3-year position with the possibility of extension.
