We are pleased to announce that the European Association of Geochemistry will support the travel (400 euros) of some participants to the International Short Course on “Application of Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) to Earth Sciences” that will be held in Perugia, Italy, from 07 to 09 June 2017.
The course is based on the practical use of LA-ICP-MS, data reduction and interpretation. Applicants will be trained in the “hands-on” operation equipment, using the two LA-ICP-MS instruments available at the Petro-Volcanology Research Group (see https://goo.gl/d25N85 for further technical information). A selected number of applicants will have the opportunity to analyze their data, free of charge, in the six months following the short course. Selection will be based on the submission of a brief research proposal. In addition, the best poster presentation will be awarded with an IOLITE license. The course is organized by the Petro-Volcanology Research Group at Department of Physics and Geology (University of Perugia) with the support of Teledyne Technologies Inc., Thermo Fisher Scientific and IoliteTM.

The workshop targets PhD students and advanced Master students, as well as Postdoctoral candidates and senior scientists. A series of lectures will be provided on the application of LA-ICP-MS in Earth Sciences.
Free access to the LA-ICP-MS analytical facility
We offer the opportunity for Ph.D. students and Early Career Scientists (Ph.D. degree obtained no longer than six years ago) to present a short (max 2 A4 pages) proposal to get free access to our LA-ICP-MS facility for a maximum of 3 days. Please note that we will cover LA-ICP-MS analytical costs but not the costs related to accommodation.
The scientific committee will evaluate proposals, and use of the LA-ICP-MS facility will be awarded to the best three submissions. The PVRG facility will support the awarded researchers during data acquisition, reduction and interpretation. Proposals focused on petrological and volcanological applications are particularly encouraged. The awarded attendees are asked to provide an oral presentation during the short course.
Travel Grants supported by the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG)
A selected number of applicants will have also the opportunity to receive an economical support for the travel and the stay in Perugia during the course. The amount of these grants is 400 euro for students from Foreign (non-Italian) Institutions and 200 euro for students from Italian Institutions. Grants are minded to cover the costs related to travel, foods and stay. The evaluation will be based on the same brief research proposal used to ask the free access to the LA-ICP-MS facility. The participants are invited to prepare a poster presentation concerning their current studies emphasizing how LA-ICP-MS is or could be used to improve the currency of the obtained results. The best poster presentation will be awarded with an IOLITE 3 license.
