Post-doctoral position available

A postdoctoral position is available at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fluids and Volatiles Laboratory: duration is 2 years. The lab is equipped with two noble gases mass spectrometers: a MAP215 and a VG5440 modified multi-collector spectrometer (both have undergone electronics upgrades), and associated extraction systems and preparation lines. Other instrumentation at Scripps/UC San Diego, including IRMS, is available.  Our primary research activities involve targeting isotopes of He-Ne-Ar-CO2-N2 in basalts, xenoliths, geothermal fluids, groundwaters, etc. from a variety of tectonic environments with research directed at mantle plumes, subduction zones, earthquake precursory activity, volatile fluxes, and more (see http://scrippsscholars.ucsd.edu/drhilton).  The position is primarily laboratory-based but opportunities will exist for related field studies. In the first instance, research will be directed at the New Zealand subduction system and the N-isotope systematics of the oceanic mantle. A solid working knowledge of mass spectrometry is essential as is strong writing, team-working and interpersonal skills.

Please send CV and max 2-page statement of experience/interests to Professor David Hilton (drhilton@xxxxxxxx).  The position is available from February 1, 2017.

The successful candidate must have completed his/her PhD at the time of appointment.
