Dear Colleagues,

The UCLA SIMS group has opened applications for our 5-day workshop on ion microprobe applications in the geosciences, which will be held at UCLA Feb. 27 - Mar. 3, 2017.  The workshop is intended for graduate students and advanced undergraduates (the latter requiring a letter of recommendation from an academic advisor) and will cover the basics of mass spectrometry by SIMS, including data reduction, sample preparation, and experience making measurements on both UCLA's CAMECA ims1270 and ims1290 ion microprobes.

The focus will be on geochronology and stable isotope geochemistry.  Support for travel and lodging will be provided by NSF's Instrumentation and Facilities program for domestic participants.

The application deadline is 19 December 2016, and the application form can be found at the UCLA SIMS group website, sims.ess.ucla.edu.

Sincerely,
Elizabeth Bell
