Travel to and from Tasmania is relatively simple.
International travel from major cities to Melbourne or Sydney is ideal, followed by a 1-1.5 hour direct domestic flight to Hobart. Within Australia major domestic carriers are Virgin Australia and Qantas, and budget carriers are Jetstar and Tiger airlines.
Air travel in the January/February summer periods can become very expensive if booked at the last minute. Please consider booking your travel before October to ensure reasonable rates. In general flights from the US are $2000-$2500, from Asia are $1000 - $1500, and from Europe are $1500 - $2500.
Hobart is a 20 minute car/taxi ride from the airport. Shuttles and taxis are available.
