Postdoctoral Position in Volcano Geodesy

The Division of Marine Geosciences (MGS) at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS) at the University of Miami, Florida invites applications for a postdoctoral position to study active volcanoes using space-geodetic data. The appointee will use InSAR and GPS observations of basaltic and andesitic systems to identify and explain links between neighboring volcanoes. Volcanic systems to be studied are the volcanoes in the Galapagos Islands and the volcanoes in Kyushu, Japan. The appointee is also expected to study volcanic unrest episodes of opportunity. This project is part of a broader effort to develop an operational methodology for eruption prediction using current and future SAR missions with short revisiting times, including NASA’s NISAR mission to be launched in 2020. The position is initially available for a 18 month period with the possibility of extension.  For an overview about our research activities please visit http://www.geodesy.miami.edu. Review of applications begins May 1 2016 and will continue until the position is filled. For more information on the position please contact Dr. Falk Amelung (famelung@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx). Complete applications will consist of a cover letter, a detailed curriculum vitae and complete contact information for at least three references.
