Hi Folks,

I, John Chadwick (chadwickj@xxxxxxxx), Dan Harlov (dharlov@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx) and James Saunders (saundja@xxxxxxxxxx) wish to draw your attention to a session devoted to all aspects of crustal metasomatism and ore deposits at the 2015 AGU Fall Meeting in San Francisco (https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm15/preliminaryview.cgi/Session9803).

V023: Mineralization, Metasomatism and Mass Transfer Associated with Crustal Magmas

Society is increasingly relying on mineral resources for high technology and green industries.  The aim of this session is to explore advances made on the partitioning behavior of elements during fluid-rock interaction and the effects of metasomatic processes in mineralization associated with crustal magmatic processes.  Advances have been made in studies of porphyry to epithermal ore deposits in volcanic and orogenic provinces using analytical approaches such as geochronology, isotopic analyses, and in situ LA-ICP-MS analyses of fluid inclusions.  In contrast, rare earth element and other so-called critical element deposits such as peralkaline granitic, alkaline syenitic, carbonatites, pegmatites, and the IOCG related systems are still poorly understood.  Metasomatic zones developed during ore forming processes in magmatic-hydrothermal systems yield key insights for element partitioning and mass transfer in the crust.  We welcome contributions showing advances from field studies, numerical modeling, and experimental work.

Please encourage your students, postdocs, etc. to contribute to the session.

The on-line abstract submission deadline is August 5, 2015.

Infos on abstract submission can be found here http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2015/abstract-submissions/

Should any questions arise as to the suitability of the topic for an abstract to the session, please feel free to contact me.

Best regards,

Alex Gysi
