Volcano Geophysical Field Methods Class Southern Chile

Boise State University and University of Concepcion are offering a 3-credit-hour graduate-level volcano geophysics field methods class in the Southern Andes (Chile) in March 2015.  We will be deploying seismic and acoustic array instrumentation to collect, process, and analyze earthquake and eruptive activity from Llaima and Villarrica Volcanoes.  MATLAB data processing routines will be taught. This is an intensive course involving field deployment of sensors, quantitative signal analysis, and excursions to explore the physical volcanology of the region.

This class is appropriate for graduate students focused on volcanic processes and related fields.  The in-country portion of the course runs from Saturday March 14th until Monday March 30th.  All in-country expenses will be covered, but students will be responsible for their own air travel to Chile.

Space is limited and students will be selected based open a brief statement of interest and CV. Please direct any questions and send application materials directly to jeffreybjohnson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.  Applications received prior to the end of October will be given preference.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Johnson (Boise State University)
Jose Palma (University of Concepcion)
Brittany Brand (Boise State University)
