Dear Colleagues:

We would like to invite you to submit an abstract to our upcoming Workshop in Houston, TX (Nov 3-5, 2014) focusing on Volatiles in the Martian Interior.

Abstract Deadline is August 19, 2014

Workshop on Volatiles in the Martian Interior

Volatile components (H2O, CO2, Cl, F, S, and Noble Gases) and their pathways within and between the Martian surface, atmosphere, and interior are a fundamental focus of NASA’s Mars Exploration Program, because of their importance in geological processes, including evolution of habitable environments and potentially life. There is ample evidence for water in the Martian crust in the form of hydrous minerals, surface features, and hydrogen analyses. Water alone is insufficient to produce a habitable planet, so information about the nature, relationship and reactivity of other chemical elements and compounds is essential. This session will focus on the chemistry, location and effects of such fluids on the habitability potential of Mars. Reports on data from meteorite, remote sensing and in situ surface investigations, including the latest from Mars Science Laboratory are all applicable for inclusion in this session.
