Dear colleagues:

The American Geophysical Union’s 47th annual Fall Meeting will be held in San Francisco, California 15 – 19 December. We would like to bring to your attention the following session related to the science enabled by a proposed synthetic aperture radar mission being studied jointly by the US and India:

New Frontiers in Ecosystem, Solid Earth, Cryosphere, and Natural Hazards

Session Description:

The NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Mission, or NI-SAR, is an all-weather L- and S-band radar satellite designed to collect temporally and spatially dense global polarimetric and interferometric radar imagery to characterize and understand the fundamental process that drive changes to ecosystems (above ground biomass, disturbance/recovery, climate change, wetlands and agriculture), solid earth deformation (earthquakes, volcanic unrest, land subsidence/hydrology, carbon sequestration and landslides), cryospheric dynamics (ice sheets, sea ices, and glaciers), and hazard response (solid earth hazards, floods, coastal inundation, anthropogenic disasters). NI-SAR, scheduled to launch in 2020, provides a means of disentangling highly spatial and temporally complex processes that span the Earth Sciences.  We seek contributions from the AGU community on the wide-ranging emergent uses of SAR imaging techniques, including polarimetry, interferometry, and time-series analysis, for innovative science, and science applications.
