Dear colleagues,

Abstract submissions for the 2014 AGU Fall Meeting are now
open until 6 August, 2014

We would like to invite you to submit an abstract to our session #3873.

Magma Transport and Eruption at Basaltic Volcanoes

Magma ascent, dike propagation and eruptive style depend on several parameters such as source depth, regional and local stress fields, mechanical characteristics of the medium, physical properties of magma, decompression rates and volatile phase behavior. The observations and data available to study magmatic and eruptive processes at basaltic volcanoes continue to accumulate and improve with improvements and additions to volcano monitoring. Knowledge of how eruptions are triggered and possible controls on eruptive style has evolved in recent years due to such improvements and opportunities for integrated volcanic research. Importantly, the frequency and intensity of explosive activity at basaltic volcanoes often have been underestimated.  We welcome contributions related to multidisciplinary observations, studies that examine the influence of magma volatile contents and P-T conditions on its crystallization paths and rheology, and models of transport, plumbing, storage, and eruption at basaltic volcanoes in a range of tectonic settings, but particularly at hotspot volcanoes.

We hope to see you in San Francisco
