The U.S. Geological Survey seeks a Hydrologist, Geologist, or Chemist to support ongoing studies of the chemistry of waters and gases in volcanic and geothermal systems. This term position is located in the Menlo Park, California Office and is administered by the National Research Program. The research group is largely funded by the Volcano Hazards and Geothermal Programs and is responsible for conducting basic and applied research investigations on: (1) the geologic, hydrologic, and geochemical manifestations of volcanic unrest and (2) the potential for development of geothermal energy and the actual and predicted impacts of that development. The primary duties of this position are to collect samples of gas and water in volcanic and geothermal areas, use and maintain a wide range of laboratory analytical instruments for the chemical analysis of these fluids, develop and maintain chemical and hydrologic databases, and deploy and maintain scientific instruments in remote areas under challenging conditions. Experience with datalogger operations and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) is an advantage. More information on the application process can be found at
