************************************************************************************************
18-months Postdoctoral position in exp. HT/HP petrophysics at the
Laboratoire Géosciences Montpellier (University of Montpellier 2 / CNRS).
Start date: 01/09/2014.
Salary: 1880 euros net/month
Position description:
Géosciences Montpellier is a partner of the IMAGE project (« Integrated Methods for
Advanced Geothermal Exploration» http://www.image-fp7.eu), a 4-years project of
the 7th European Framework Program, starting 01.11.2013. The IMAGE project will
develop a reliable science based exploration and assessment method to image
geothermal reservoirs using an interdisciplinary approach. It comprises 19 academic
and private partners in Europe.
Géosciences Montpellier contribution to this program consists in improving our
knowledge on the behaviour of deepest hydro-geothermal reservoirs, in magmatic
environments, by performing experimental measurements of petrophysical properties
of rocks at high temperature and high pressure.
The selected candidate will perform experimental measurements of electrical
conductivity and permeability of basaltic rocks up to 700°C, 200 MPa in presence of
a pore fluid and if possible, under deviatoric stress, in order to simulate the deep
reservoirs conditions. The Paterson press of the laboratoire Géosciences Montpellier,
an internally heated gas pressure apparatus, will be the central tool of this study.
The candidate will participate to annual meetings and workshops organized by the
IMAGE consortium. She/he will have the opportunity to confront the experimental
results with geological and geophysical observations obtained by the other partners.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Earth Sciences or experimental
physics.
Established skills in HT/HP experimentation are essential. In addition, an experience
in microanalysis techniques will be necessary (optical microscopy, SEM, EPMA), as
microscale observations on pre- and post- run samples are essential for linking
measured physical properties to mineralogy, deformation microstructures, chemistry.
Finally, experimental or theoretical skills in rock physics (e.g., electrical conductivity,
permeability, acoustic properties, rheology) will be appreciated.
Application:
Applications for the position close on June 15th, 2014. Applications have
to include a curriculum vitae, a statement of research interests, and names and
contact details of at least two referees.
