Dear colleagues,

The Cities on Volcanoes 8 meeting will convene in Yogyakarta, Java, Indonesia on Sept 9-13, 2014, in the shadow of Merapi volcano. We solicit your contributions to the following volcano remote sensing session at the conference:

Topic: Volcanology
Subtopic: 1.I Monitoring Volcanoes
Session 1.I.C.3 Remote Sensing Applied to Active Volcanoes and Risk Assessment in Densely Populated Areas

Remote sensing has long been used for tracking volcanic activity and for delineating the structure and morphology of volcanoes. New remote sensing techniques and satellite sensors (optical, radar, thermal, etc.) with unprecedented high spatial resolution have enabled scientists to detect surface change on active volcanoes and follow the behavior of active volcanoes as well as the evolution of long-lasting eruptions.
This session will cover all aspects of terrestrial remote sensing techniques applied to volcano surveillance (thermal IR, deformation, etc.). We invite contributions from scientists focused on specific applications of remote sensing, e.g. high-spatial resolution mapping of pyroclastic and lahar deposits, and particularly those working on volcanoes in Indonesia and SE Asia. Finally, this session also aims to show how different methods can contribute to improved hazard and risk assessment in densely populated areas around active volcanoes.

Note that the abstract submission deadline has been extended until April 30.

Look forward to seeing you in Jogja / Berharap dapat melihat anda di Jogja!
