PhD Research Fellowship in Experimental Geophysics
Job/ project description:
The objectives of this project are to integrate quantitative laboratory experiments of volcano plumbing systems with state-of-the-art geodetic modeling methods applied on active volcanoes. The project will benefit from close collaborations with Icelandic geodesists, and the successful candidate is expected to spend several work periods in Reykjavik. The successful applicant will integrate with the PGP section of the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo.
Requirements/qualifications:
The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in geology or geophysics. Candidates without a Master´s degree have until 30 June, 2014 to complete the final exam.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in quantitative laboratory modeling and programming. In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be given to:
- The applicant’s academic and personal qualifications in order to execute the project
- The applicant’s ability to complete research training
- The applicant’s mobility
- Good communication and collaboration skills and an ability to join interdisciplinary academic communities
