The University of Auckland (New Zealand) is currently advertising for a permanent, full-time technician to run our upgraded X-ray facility.  This position is split between the Auckland Science Analytical services (60%) and the School of Environment (40%).  The closing date for this application is April 30th (Job ID 16244).

Analytical Technician

We are seeking an experienced and organised technician to operate and maintain our new X-ray analytical research laboratory as part of the Auckland Science Analytical Services (Faculty of Science) and to provide support for academic research programmes within the School of Environment at the University of Auckland.


This position will be primarily responsible for the ongoing operation, training, and maintenance of key research equipment, including, but not limited to;

·        

X-  X-Ray diffractometer (XRD)

·         X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (XRF)

·         General Area Diffraction Detection System (GADDS)


In addition, this position will provide support for the School of Environment geochemical research, centred primarily on sample preparation and the development of analytical techniques including procedures such as rock dissolution and column chemistry associated with ICP-MS analysis.


The successful applicant will have a proven track record of maintaining an orderly and effective laboratory, providing strong analytical expertise and training to both academics and students, and maintaining Health & Safety in a laboratory environment.  A tertiary degree (MSc minimum) in Geochemistry, Chemistry or Physics related discipline is required.


It is essential that the candidate have strong oral and written communication skills and be a positive contributor in a team environment.
