19 Argentina Geological Congress - Session "Volcanic Hazards" - S18 Symposium GeoHazards
***********************************************************************************************
Dear Colleagues,
We would like to call your attention to a special session named “Volcanic Hazards” in the Symposium S 18: “Geohazards, Impacts in the Society and Risk Reduction” to be convened at the XIX Congreso Geológico Argentino, 2-6 June 2014 (Córdoba, Argentina). This event offer an exceptional opportunity for multidisciplinary researchers working with Volcanic Hazards, Forecast and Damage Mitigation to communicate the current results of their projects and advance in the knowledge of this field. http://www.congresogeologico.org.ar/
Conveners: Elizabeth Rovere - Silvia Uber - Marcelo Vazquez Herrera - Roberto Violante - Felipe Rivelli
Deadline: 1st November
Submit your abstracts via e-mail to: simposioriesgos@xxxxxxxxx
Participants are kindly invited to submit their papers on the following topics:
Recent and historic volcanic events that affected Argentina, example: Quizapu, Descabezado (1932), Hudson 1991, Chaitén (2008), Cordón Caulle (2011), Copahue, etc. Volcano Monitoring: -Volcanic seismology. -Deformation: stress, strain and mass changes at volcanoes. -Chemistry of Volcanic Water, Ground, Gas and Ash.
Volcanic eruptions and environmental changes. Gravitational and hydrological processes, mass-wasting and landslides. Destructive floods in mountains, Patagonia estepa and plains.
Declaration of policy for the national Volcanic Observatory and its Best Practice (VOBP).
Volcanic Health Hazards, Geomedicine, (epidemiology, ecotoxicology) Public Health and physical Chemistry, a special attention is pointed to volcanic ash, contaminated water and gas emission hazards.
Installation (and gear up) of State of the Art scientific instruments for Monitoring Volcanic activity in ground, water and air. Facilitation and public governance (management) to simplify and expedite political issues for the compliance of Argentina International Agreements on Volcanic Hazards.
Simulation and Computational Modelling of PDC, lahars, floods, lava flows, ash dispersal, etc. Special invitation is considered to V-Hub “Applying Computational Models to Real-Case Scenarios for Volcanic Hazard Assessment” members.
Ash dispersal forecast to civil aviation volcanic advisors: Tephra Hazard Meteorological warnings.
Interdisciplinary impact assessment methodologies for modeling, field work and/or monitoring: pyroclastic density current dynamics, lahars, ashfall, Vog, gases, volcanic lakes, dome collapses and hydrological hazards.
Performance and design of pamphlets, manuals, boards, banners, Internet, social networks, etc. on Public Health, Education and Civil Defense information during volcanic activities and natural disasters for the community and tourism.
The conclusions of oral presentations and posters will be discussed in a forum and the results will be published.
