Call for Papers – New American Mineralogist special ‘Volcanic rocks’ section

Dear colleagues,

Along with Julia Hammer and Jessica Larsen, I would like to announce a new thematic Special Collection section of American Mineralogist entitled:

“Textural Evolution of Volcanic Rocks: Investigating Magma Rheology, Petrology, and Eruptive Processes”

In case you haven’t seen them before, the themed papers are published incrementally across sequential issues, and effectively comprise ‘special issues’ of the journal. This means that articles are published as soon as they are accepted, without the delays sometimes associated with gathering all the contributions for a special volume.

Previous/current Special Collections are quite varied, and include Petrologic Mineralogy (2008), Planetary Mineralogy (2006), Monazite Geochronology (2005), and Amorphous Materials (2008-present).

We seek contributions that cover a broad range of topics related to volcanology and volcanic rocks; including field, experimental and numerical studies of magma crystallization, degassing, mixing, as well as rheological behavior and post-eruptive petrological-geochemical modifications. Details on Special Collections, including the submission process, are available at: http://ammin.geoscienceworld.org/site/misc/specialissuelist.xhtml

Some reasons to consider contributing to the Special Collection are:

-  A cluster of related papers provides increased exposure to interested readers who may not otherwise encounter your contribution.

-  References to published contributions will be sent to the monthly broadcasted PubVolc literature database.

-  Although the submission procedure is the same as for any submitted manuscript, we (your dedicated AE’s) are motivated to expedite the review process for these contributions.

We are looking forward to your contribution to this exciting new collection, please contact us if you have any questions or if you wish to express your intention to submit.

Thomas Shea, Julia Hammer and Jessica Larsen (Associate Editors)
