From: Rajdeep Dasgupta <Rajdeep.Dasgupta@xxxxxxxx>

Dear All:

(with usual apologies for multiple postings)

The experimental petrology group of the Department of Earth Science at Rice University has an opening for a post-doctoral research associate position. The research topic is somewhat flexible, however, the new research project is expected to complement the ongoing research activities in the group on topics of carbon, sulfur, and water in the planetary interiors including early Earth differentiation, magma ocean volatile cycles, mantle melting, nature of mantle heterogeneities, and generation of magmas in various tectonic settings based on major and trace element geochemistry. The successful applicant should have a PhD in Earth Sciences or another related field of physical sciences, an interest in and knowledge of current research into the Earth's mantle and planetary differentiation. The candidate is also expected to have experience in one or several of the following experimental and analytical techniques – piston cylinder device, multi anvil apparatus, electron microprobe, SEM, SIMS, FTIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and LA-ICP-MS. Interaction and collaboration with other faculty members in the department (http://www.glacier.rice.edu/) will be encouraged.

The initial appointment will be for 1 year with an option of renewal for one or two more years based on performance and the availability of funding. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled. Application received by the end of January, 2013 will be given full consideration.

Interested candidates should contact Rajdeep Dasgupta (Rajdeep.Dasgupta@xxxxxxxx) for more information. To apply, the candidates should send a CV, a brief statement of present and future research interests, and the names of 3 references.

Rice is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer.

Best regards,

Raj
