Faculty Position in Cyber-Enabled Geosciences
Department of Geosciences at the Pennsylvania State University

The Earth science community is poised to benefit dramatically from advances in computer and information sciences, including new methods of data-model fusion, data mining, numerical simulation, and improved analyses of large, heterogeneous data sets. The Department of Geosciences at the Pennsylvania State University invites applications from candidates with strength and promise in their disciplines, experience in applying cyberscience methods to Earth science problems, a strong desire to collaborate with colleagues across campus engaged in Penn State’s CyberScience Initiative, and an interest in participating in the Earth science community’s cyberinfrastructure efforts (e.g., NSF’s Earth Cube). This position is part of a large-scale and multidisciplinary cyberscience cluster hire (cf. http://www.ics.psu.edu/hire.html ). We are looking for a data- and/or computationally intensive researcher working in any area of the geosciences (interpreted broadly) whose expertise complements existing strengths within our department. The appointment is intended to be at the assistant professor level, although in exceptional cases candidates at higher rank will be considered.

Review of applications will begin on January 3, 2013. The position will remain open until filled. To apply, please email cover letter, curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching interests, and the names and addresses of four references to: Cyber-Enabled Geosciences Search Committee, c/o Stacie Hugney, slg9@xxxxxxx .

Employment requires successful completion of a background check in accordance with University policies. Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity, and the diversity of its workforce.
