Dear Colleagues,
We would like to draw your attention to the "Active Crater Lakes"
IAVCEI session during the IAVCEI 2013 Kagoshima meeting (20-24 July 2013). The
session is sponsored by the IAVCEI Commission on Volcanic Lakes (https://vhub.org/groups/iavceicvl
).
3-10. Active Crater Lakes
The active crater lake located on volcanoes is not a simple pool of meteoric
water, but a reservoir that integrates heat and fluids provided by magmatic and
hydrothermal systems. The lake water is a part of fluid circulating in the
hydrothermal system developed above a degassing magma at depth. Active crater
lakes have been the location of frequent disasters brought by such as phreatic
eruption and CO2 gas discharge. The characteristic beautiful color of lake
water attracts tourists, therefore, the crater lakes could be an important
resources of local community. Within some crater lakes, a characteristic
microbial activity has been recognized. The researches on active crater lakes
include geophysical, geochemical and biological themes challenging to
scientists with various backgrounds. This session is intending to contribute in
the following fields:
1) Geophysical and geochemical studies on hydrothermal systems including active
crater lake as one of the components.
2) Energy and material balance through active crater lakes.
3) Geophysical structure of layered water in active crater lakes.
4) Geochemical signature of dissolved components in active crater lake water.
5) Biological studies on microorganisms living in crater lake water.
6) Studies on disaster happened at crater lakes and mitigation.
7) Studies on crater lakes as a tourism resource.
This session welcomes the studies related on the above topics and also
interesting studies unclassified into the above topics.
The abstract submission deadline is 31 January 2013:

Assembly will be followed by the 8th Workshop on Volcanic Lakes (CVL8),
sponsored by the IAVCEI Commission on Volcanic Lakes.
