Dear
Colleagues,
There will be two sessions on lava flows
during the IAVCEI
scientific assembly in Kagoshima, Japan (20–24 July
2013):
Session 3-9a: “Advanced imaging and analysis of
lava flows”
Session 3-9b: “Processes of pillow formation and
constraints for
eruption conditions and eruption environments”
We
invite
contributions to both of these sessions and remind speakers
that abstracts
are due no later than 31 January 2013. To
submit an abstract visit:
http://www.iavcei2013.com/abstract_submission/abstract_submission.html
We
look
forward to seeing you in Kagoshima and if you have any
questions please do not
hesitate to contact:
Christopher Hamilton (christopher.hamilton@xxxxxxxx),
or
Ben Edwards (edwardsb@xxxxxxxxxxxxx)
Session 3-9a:
“Advanced imaging and
analysis of lava flows”
Conveners: Christopher Hamilton, Susumu
Umino, Yoshihiko Goto, and Stephen
Self

This session will explore new developments in
field-based,
experimental, and remote sensing analysis of volcanic
terrains on Earth and
other planetary bodies. Contributions involving integrated
measurement
techniques (e.g., LiDAR, RADAR, thermal infrared, visible,
photogrammetric,
infrasound) are encouraged, as are studies of lava
flow
morphology, rheology, emplacement dynamics, and hazard
mitigation.
Session 3-9b: “Processes
of pillow formation and
constraints for eruption conditions and eruption
environments”
Conveners: Ben Edwards, Meagen Pollock, and Alex
Nichols
Additional Information: http://www.iavcei2013.com/scientific_program/scientific_program.html#3_9b
We encourage contributions from marine and terrestrial studies of pillow lava, especially studies that compare eruption processes in multiple types of environments, studies of pillow morphologies, internal characteristics, and their use for documenting eruption environments.
Financial support is available from IAVCEI for (a) young scientists
and (b) scientists
attending from developing countries. For details see:
