Dear Colleagues,

The Multidisciplinary Applied Geochemistry Network (MAGNET) is an NSERC-funded industrial stream Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program devoted to geochemistry. We are seeking highly motivated MSc and PhD applicants demonstrating strong research potential and academic excellence to join our dynamic and rapidly growing network.

MAGNET trainees will benefit from an intensive training program that includes (1) Research projects that are highly innovative and likely to have significant scientific and/or societal impact; (2) Mentorship from some of Canada’s leading scientists who are internationally recognized for their geochemistry expertise; (3) Hands-on training in the latest techniques using state-of-the-art equipment and instrumentation; and (4) Internships with some of the top analytical, environmental, mining and resource exploration companies in Canada and the world.

Current research project openings include:

- Shield Stage of Kauai (Hawaii)

- Mount Garibaldi (SW British Columbia)

- Mafic Layered Intrusions and Isotopic Heterogeneity

- Hf isotope implication for the formation and evolution of the NE Superior Province (Quebec)

- Use of Se isotopes in understanding the formation of magmatic PGE and Ni-Cu deposits

- Field-based isotopic studies of natural and anthropogenic environmental systems

Projects will be based at one of our partner universities (University of British Columbia, University of Toronto, University of Ottawa, McGill University, Université du Québec à Montréal, Université du Québec à Chicoutimi). Application procedures and deadlines are unique to each institution (some as early as January for September 2013 start) so prospective students should start the process as soon as possible.

See application instructions: http://www.magnet.eos.ubc.ca/apply/how-to-apply/

MAGNET is open to Canadian and international applicants. Salary and travel stipends are available for up to 2 years for MSc trainees, and up to 4 years for PhD trainees. Graduate students who have already commenced their program are not eligible to apply for MAGNET funding.

Please contact me if you have any questions.
