Dear all,

We solicit contributions to the following special session at the 2012 Fall AGU Meeting in San Francisco, CA, Dec 3-7 (http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2012/). The abstract submission deadline is August 8.

V049: Towards Improved Constraints on Volcanic CO2 Emissions

Volcanic CO2 emissions are a key indicator of volcanic unrest but are difficult to measure remotely and poorly quantified globally. With the current or impending availability of increasingly sensitive satellite CO2 datasets (e.g., GOSAT, OCO-2), it is timely to discuss volcanic CO2 measurements on diverse temporal and spatial scales, and for different styles of activity (e.g., explosive eruptions, passive degassing). We solicit contributions on quantification of volcanic CO2 using techniques including satellite, airborne and ground-based remote sensing, diffuse degassing, continuous monitoring, in-situ measurements, and petrological analysis. Studies of a theoretical nature, on algorithms, or on emerging technologies are also welcome.

Conveners:
Terrence Gerlach (U.S. Geological Survey, USA)
Patrick Allard (Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, France)
Florian Schwandner (Earth Observatory of Singapore, Singapore)
Simon Carn (Michigan Technological University, USA)
