PhD position: "Eruptive history of the Oldoinyo Lengai volcano, Northern Tanzania"
The Institute of Geochemistry and Petrology at ETH Zurich invites applications for a PhD position in Volcanology.
The PhD project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, will be supervised by Dr. Hannes B. Mattsson and Prof. Ann Hirt. The project will establish a detailed eruption chronology for Oldoinyo Lengai volcano in Northern Tanzania using a combination of: (1) mapping/fieldwork, (2) geochemical/petrographic analyses, (3) radiometric age determinations, and (4) measurements of the Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility (AMS) in combination with paleomagnetism. Additional information about the project is available upon request.
The length of the appointment will be for 3 years, starting in Fall 2012. Candidates should hold a diploma or M.Sc. degree with a strong background in volcanology, igneous petrology and/or geophysics.
