We would like to remind you of "SESSION 2.5: Volcanic ash fall impacts: warning, preparedness, case studies and mitigation strategies" for the upcoming Cities on Volcanoes 7 conference, to be held in Colima, Mexico, from 19-23 November, 2012.
Volcanic ash fall continues to cause some of the most frequent, widespread, disruptive and costly effects from volcanic eruptions. This session will explore:
1. Effective ash fall warnings: this session seeks to gather examples of graphical and text ash fall warning products issued worldwide. We would like to hear from volcanologists and collaborators at meteorology and emergency management agencies regarding the specific communications about likely or pending ash fall events. What elements of the communication protocol are effective, what may be less effective, and how do populations and facilities at risk react to warning messages? Case studies and lessons learned are welcome.
2. Studies of preparedness for future ash fall;
3. Case studies of volcanic ash fall impacts and management focussing on the last few years;
4. Recent developments in protocols and standards for ashfall impact data collection and laboratory studies;
5. The most effective mitigation strategies, in terms of technical specifics but also organisational and public behaviour.
We invite you to submit abstracts and register for the conference, by 31 July via the web portal: http://www.citiesonvolcanoes7.com/

We look forward to seeing you at CoV7!
