Fall AGU Meeting 2012, San Francisco, CA, 3-7 Dec 2012.

Dear Colleagues,
We would like to draw your attention and invite you to submit an abstract to the following AGU 2012 session:

V036. Petrologic Insights on Magmatic Processes Controlling Shifts in Eruption Style: Cosponsored by MSA

The application of petrology to volcanology enables to address what triggers an eruption, or what controls the intensity and style of an eruption. Zoning patterns of crystals, volatile contents of the magma, crystal and particularly groundmass textures (microlites and bubbles) provide powerful tools to unravel late stage volcanic processes such as magma recharge, degassing, crystallization, and ascent. Processes responsible for shifts in eruption style (effusive-explosive or changes in intensity) can occur in the reservoir or conduit, which has significant implications for eruption forecasting. This session aims at bringing together researchers who focus on such processes through the study of natural rocks.

Convenors:
Caroline Bouvet de Maisonneuve, Earth Observatory of Singapore
Fidel Costa, Earth Observatory of Singapore
Kathy Cashman, University of Oregon

The abstract submission deadline is 8 August 2012.
