Dear Colleagues,

We encourage you to submit an abstract to the VGP session V041 "Space, Time, and Transport in Petrology and Geochemistry" at the Fall AGU meeting this December in San Francisco.

The Fall AGU meeting takes place from December 3-7 this year in San Francisco. Please see the meeting website http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2012/ for details about the meeting.

Abstracts must be submitted by August 8 at http://agu-fm12.abstractcentral.com/ .

V041 Space, Time and Transport in Petrology and Geochemistry

This session focuses on all aspects of burgeoning efforts to quantitatively interpret spatial patterns based on mineral occurrences and/or on the chemical and isotopic compositions of rocks and minerals controlled by the transport of heat, mass, and fluids.  Subjects include, but are not limited to, (1) natural patterns, at scales ranging from single crystals to mountain belts, in igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks and ore deposits; (2) laboratory measurements of transport properties and reaction rates and mechanisms; and (3) transport theory and models of both laboratory experiment and field occurrence. Studies that use kinetically controlled transport processes on various scales to decipher rates and durations of geological events are especially relevant. The goal is to convene scientists with diverse skills and interests to share ideas and methodologies.
Invited speakers:
William Carlson, University of Texas at Austin
Fidel Costa, Earth Observatory of Singapore
David Pattison, University of Calgary
Mary Reid, Northern Arizona University

This session is cosponsored by MSA.

Feel free to contact any of the conveners if you have any questions.

Conveners:
George Bergantz, University of Washington, bergantz@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
John Ferry, Johns Hopkins University, jferry@xxxxxxx
Thomas Müller, Ruhr-Universität Bochum, thomas.mueller-1@xxxxxx
Sarah Penniston-Dorland, University of Maryland, sarahpd@xxxxxxx
