Subject: Graduate Opportunities in Field-based Volcano Acoustics Studies

Boise State Department of Geosciences is currently seeking several MS and PhD level students to fill funded assistantships for volcano geophysical studies with emphasis on volcano acoustics.  Projects will be field-based involving combinations of ground-based observations (including seismo-acoustic, tilt, optical, thermal, and UV imaging) to understand source phenomenology and atmospheric propagation effects.  Study areas will include infrasonically-intense volcanoes in Guatemala, Ecuador, Chile, Yellowstone, and other sites as activity warrants.  We invite students with quantitative and computer programming skills for these projects; instrumentation and backcountry experience would also be useful.  Contact Professor Jeffrey Johnson (jeffrey.b.johnson@xxxxxxxxx; http://earth.boisestate.edu/jeffrey-johnson/) for more information.  The Boise State University Department of Geosciences website is at http://earth.boisestate.edu/.  Links to graduate school application can be found there
