Dear all,

the VolcanoDiscovery Team including Marco Fulle and Tom Pfeiffer just returned from an expedition to the still the still ongoing Nyamuragira eruption during 22-25 Jan when we could visit  the activity from the newly formed cinder cones now locally called Kimanura, located about 10 km east of the summit caldera.
The activity from the eastern vent complex, although decreasing in intensity, allowed the group to be the first to climb the inactive Kimanura west Crater. From there the entire eruptive field could be seen, which is about 10 km long.
Photos and descriptions of the current activity (as well pictures from the expeditions during the previous more violent lava fountaining phases), the expedition circumstances and interesting bizarre landscapes are available at:

and a report at: http://www.volcanodiscovery.com/view_news/4622/Nyamuragira-volcano-DR-Congo-update-eruption-continues-with-active-lava-lake-and-lava-flow-from-new-.html

We take the opportunity to express a big Thank You to the coordinators, guides and rangers of the Virunga National Park for making this expedition possible and highly recommend them: http://gorillacd.org/

Many greetings,

Tom Pfeiffer / Marco Fulle
