*****************************************************************************************Hello all,
Please consider submitting an abstract to the upcoming session "Silicic Volcanism" (T1) at the GSA Cordilleran Section Meeting in Queretaro, Mexico, 29th-31st March 2012. The abstract deadline is JANUARY 10th 2012.

The 2012 Cordilleran Section meeting in Queretaro provides a unique opportunity to experience the sights, sounds, and geology of central Mexico, including spectacular examples of Neogene silicic volcanism in the Trans-Mexican volcanic belt and Sierra Madre Occidental silicic large igneous province. Please join us for a topical session focused on silicic volcanism that will highlight on-going and recent studies in Mexico and elsewhere in the Cordillera and North America. Queretaro is a beautiful, safe, and lively city with direct flights from Dallas, Houston, and Mexico City; and it will host a memorable meeting [http://www.geosociety.org/sections/cord/2012mtg/registration.htm].
So far we have one invited speaker confirmed, Emeritus Prof. Fred McDowell (UT Austin) talking about advances in understanding of the timing and rates of volcanism in the Sierra Madre Occidental silicic large igneous province.
We are keen to solicit abstracts covering all aspects of silicic volcanism, and strongly encourage participation by geologists from Mexico, the United States, and beyond.
We hope that you will also take this opportunity to take part in one or more of the fieldtrips advertised, several of which will focus on the volcanic geology of the region (FTs 5, 7, 8, and 9), including the Trans-Mexican volcanic belt and the Sierra Madre Occidental [http://www.geosociety.org/sections/cord/2012mtg/fieldTrips.htm].
