CALL for a PhD Candidated at the University of Naples Federico II
On Nov 15th, 2011 will be announced the call for opening of positions for the PhD Programme at University of Naples Federico II (closing date of the application: Dec 15th 2011), for the Cicle XXVII.
One position is reserved to foreign students for the PhD Programme “Dinamica interna dei sistemi vulcanici e rischi idrogeologico-ambientali” (Internal dynamics of volcanic systems and hydrogeological-environmental risks). Below is given the title of the research project and the qualifications required to the candidate.
Title: Using post-entrapment modifications of melt inclusions in olivine phenocrysts to determine the cooling history of individual phenocrysts within the magmatic plumbing systems of active volcanoes.
Qualifications required for undertaking this project: 1) solid background in thermodynamic of magmatic systems, including mineral-melt equilibrium, properties of solid solutions, and the mechanisms of trace element substitutions in the main rock-forming minerals; 2) familiarity with causes and mechanisms of diffusion within solid solutions; 3) solid background in maths with experience in working with differential equations; and 4) familiarity with building computational algorithms and writing computer code.
The PhD program will be carried out in collaboration between University of Naples Federico II and University of Tasmania.
