University of New Mexico: two Ph.D. positions in magmatic-hydrothermal-ground water fluids.

There are two U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) funded graduate student positions available in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at the University of New Mexico.  The first project is to investigate dissolved gases in ground water and hydrothermal springs discharging in the Nicoya Peninsula Costa Rica.  The purpose is to evaluate subducting slab devolatilization at shallow levels below the Costa Rica fore-arc.  The second project is to investigate the relationship between volatiles, faults and magmatism in the North Tanzania and South Kenya segment of the East African Rift.  Both projects require field and analytical work and are fully funded by NSF.

The supervisor for both projects is Prof. Tobias Fischer. The University of New Mexico application deadline is the 15th of January 2012, with a start date in August 2012.

For more information contact Tobias Fischer (fischer@xxxxxxx). For application materials visit http://epswww.unm.edu/grad/index.htm.
