Postdoctoral/Researcher position on Volcanology at Pusan National University, Republic of Korea

Dear Colleagues,
The Research Institute of Environment Sciences & the Department of Earth Sciences at the Pusan National University, Busan, Republic of Korea invite one postdoctoral/research fellow for six-months Researcher Position in volcanology with special emphasis on the relationship between precursor phenomena and eruption prediction of major volcanoes and evaluation of future eruption from the Mt. Baegdusan volcano, which located the border between North Korea and China(42°00′24″N 128°03′18″E~42.00667°N 128.055°E).
Applicants must have a Ph.D in Volcanology and suitable research backgrounds.
She/he will be carried out 1) understand the monitoring systems of some volcanoes(case study) in Japanese volcanoes(Usu and Mt. Fuji), American volcanoes(especially Alaskan volcanic observatory(AVO) and Hawaiian volcanic observatory(HVO), and Italian volcanic observatory(Etna and Stromboli volcano). And she/he should suggest the optimal monitoring system and long-distance tele-monitoring system for the Mt. Baegdusan. And Specific research interests may include relationship between precursor phenomena and eruption prediction of major volcanoes in the world, 2) Evaluation of hypothetical/future eruption from the Mt. Baegdusan volcano according various condition (volcanic explosive index, seasonal variation of weather, height of eruption column, etc.).
We will support the money US$18,000/6 months (US$3,000/month) including accommodation and life in Busan and some additional supports during 6 months from 1, August 2011 to 29, Feb 2012. It can be renewed upon mutual research interest. Next year will be continued if next project should be selected by Korea Science-Technology Foundation(maybe 100 % surely).
The hard deadline for applications is 27 July 2011, with a desired start date of 1 August 2011.
