Dear List-Members,

Please let your colleagues know about this faculty opening at the University of Oregon.

Ilya Bindeman

Assistant Professor Volcanic/Magmatic Processes
Geological Sciences, University of Oregon, Eugene

Closes: Open Until Filled

The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Oregon invites applications for a tenure-track position, at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in the Fall of 2012 with a focus on magmatic and/or volcanic processes.  We seek a scientist who addresses one or more aspects of magma formation, transport, storage, crystallization, fragmentation, eruption and surface deposition.  We are particularly interested in candidates who study physical processes through integration of field, experimental, geochemical, and/or theoretical modeling approaches.  The successful candidate will be expected to develop a laboratory in their area of specialization and will have access to existing stable isotope, FTIR spectroscopy, experimental petrology, and computational facilities as well as the microanalytical equipment in the University’s Center for Advanced Materials Characterization (SEM, EPMA, EBSD, TEM, TOF-SIMS; http://camcor.uoregon.edu/).  We seek a candidate who will complement our existing strengths in volcanology, petrology, geochemistry, geophysics, geodynamics, and Earth surface processes.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous, externally funded research program, contribute to the mission of the department in undergraduate and graduate education, and engage in departmental and university service.  A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment and postdoctoral experience is desirable. Applicants must apply at Academic Jobs Online  http://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/740 where they should upload an application letter, a current curriculum vita, and a two-page statement of current and future research and a one-page teaching statement.  When notified by email, they should arrange to have three to four letters of recommendation uploaded at the same site.  Further inquiries concerning this search should be sent to geosearch@xxxxxxxxxxx.  Review of applications will begin on September 12, 2011 and continue until a suitable candidate is identified.
