Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to contribute an abstract to a special session on the formation and evolution of mafic enclaves in both intrusive and extrusive magmas (V08) at the Fall AGU, in December, 2011.

Session

V08: Formation and Evolution of Magmatic Enclaves in Arc-related Rocks

Sponsor: Volcanology, Geochemistry, and Petrology (V)

Conveners:

Frank J. Tepley, III  ftepley@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Oregon State University

Sarah Collins  s.j.collins@xxxxxxxxxxxx Durham University

Dale Burns  burnsd@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Oregon State University

Description

Magmatic enclaves are common to many intermediate and silicic arc-related volcanic and plutonic rocks. They represent the interaction between diverse magma types, each with varying physical characteristics such as temperature, crystal and water content and composition. Quantifying the processes that occur when these magmas interact, such as hybridization, crystallization, assimilation and volatile exchange, is a fundamental objective in our attempt to understand how magmas interact and evolve. We invite contributions from researchers who use and integrate petrological, geochemical, and mechanical methodologies to elucidate the roles that these magmatic processes play in enclave formation and magma evolution.
