AGU 2011 Session: V07 Cyclic activity and Flow Instability in Volcanoes, Geysers, and Mud Volcanoes

Dear colleagues,

We would like to announce and invite submissions to the 2011 Fall AGU session :

V07. Cyclic activity and Flow Instability in Volcanoes, Geysers, and Mud Volcanoes.
Sponsor: Volcanology, Geochemistry, and Petrology (V)
Co-Sponsor(s): Hydrology (H), Nonlinear Geophysics (NG), Natural Hazards (NH), Tectonophysics (T)

Description: Cyclic patterns of eruptive
and intrusive activity are common in many natural systems on
Earth’s continents and oceans and on other planetary bodies.
Documented examples include inflation-deflation, lava dome
growth, and eruption of volcanoes, geysering, and explosions
of mud volcanoes. Detection and quantification of cycle
periods, amplitudes, and waveforms has improved significantly,
allowing for a better understanding of the complex multi-phase
thermo- and fluid-dynamics of these systems, with substantial
implications for volcanic hazards. We invite contributions
that present results from field measurements, laboratory
experiments, and theoretical and numerical models of
multi-phase cyclic phenomena.

Conveners : Jean Vandemeulebrouck (ISTerre, Univ. Savoie, France), Shaul Hurwitz (USGS), Amanda Clarke (Arizona State Univ.), Michael Manga (Univ. Berkeley)

Please note that abstract submissions close on 4 August.

Best wishes,
Jean, Shaul, Amanda and Michael.
