University of Oregon, Researcher/Instructor Opportunity, Experimental Petrology/Volcanology. 
 
The Department of Geological Sciences invites applications for a one year research/teaching appointment, starting no later than September 2011, that is potentially renewable for up to three years.  The successful candidate will be provided full access to the Department’s experimental petrology laboratory (http://www.uoregon.edu/~dogsci/research/facilities/experimental_petrology_lab) which houses two piston-cylinders, two 1 atm. gas-mixing furnaces, and two computer-controlled rapid-quench cold-seal hydrothermal apparatuses, as well as a good supply of consumables and spare parts. The candidate will also have access to the state-of the-art sample characterization facilities housed in the UO’s Center for Advanced Material Characterization (http://camcor.uoregon.edu/). In addition to conducting independent research of the candidate’s design, he/she will also be expected to teach two 10-week courses, including Mineralogy and another course of the candidate’s choosing. The position has a 9-month salary of $40,000 with a generous benefits package, and includes an annual research fund of $15,000, which can be used for analytical costs, conference attendance, and other research needs.  A Ph.D. in experimental petrology or volcanology is required for this position.  Applicants should submit a CV, a detailed description of the research they propose to undertake, a statement of teaching qualifications and experience, and the names and contact information for three references, via email to arbeiter@xxxxxxxxxxx or mail your packet to posting #051013, Department of Geological Sciences, 1272 University of Oregon, Eugene, OR 97403-1272.
