Senior Research Technician in Submarine Volcanism
This position will perform oceanographic research and development in support of a submarine volcanism program. The program emphasizes the formation of seamounts offshore California, mid-ocean ridge processes on the Gorda Ridge, and the submarine geology of the Hawaiian Islands. The successful candidate should have background and skills in the area of marine geology, with particular emphasis on lava and sediment handling and curation; geochemical database management and manipulation; computer graphics to produce slides and posters for presentation of scientific results; and collection, processing, manipulation and presentation of digital high-resolution bathymetric and sidescan data.
A Masters Degree in Geology or a related science, or equivalent experience is required. Experience with PC-based spreadsheet and graphics programs is required and knowledge of GIS is desirable. The candidate must be willing to participate in research cruises of up to one month duration each year. The candidate must have excellent communication and organizational skills and be able to work with diverse groups of people.
