For those of you currently at AGU still trying to decide what to attend tomorrow (Thursday), we invite you to join us for an unusual set of sessions looking at the past, present, and future of volcanology. “Looking Backward and Forward: Volcanology in 2010 and 2020” is a follow-up to a session held at the fall AGU ten years ago, in which a dozen geoscientists speculated about how the portion of volcano science that they knew best might change in the coming decade. Seven of the speakers from 2000 (marked with asterisks below) will be looking back at their forecasts to see how well they did. They will be joined by 12 other presenters in a poster session and two afternoon sessions looking at how our field has changed in the past ten years and might change between now and 2020. Here is an opportunity to get your first preview of a session likely to be held at the Fall 2020 AGU meeting! The poster session (V41C) is from 8:00 am-12:20 pm in the Moscone South Poster Hall and the talks (sessions V43E and V44C)) are from 1:40-6 pm in room 2020 (appropriately enough) of the Moscone West Hall.
