Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite submissions to FIEL-VOLCANOLOGY: Field, instrumental and experimental observations and studies applied to forecasting volcanic
activity.

Session GMPV15: FIEL-VOLCANOLOGY: Field, instrumental and
experimental observations and studies applied to forecasting volcanic
activity

of the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2011 (EGU2011), 03 Apr 2011 - 08 Apr 2011, Vienna, Austria.

Abstract:

Strong efforts are being done in volcanological observations, as well as in the development of better instruments and methods for the study of volcanic processes. Also, a large effort is being made in carrying out experimental work in the laboratory for the reproduction, modeling and understanding of the processes. However, most of these efforts have been developed independently and the results reported separately as if the processes studied under the different scopes were different. For a better understanding of the volcanic eruptions and their forecasting it is needed to put together the field observations, instrumental and experimental studies. This session intends to gather instrumental and methodological developments through field observations and measurements, experiments in the laboratory and databases from the monitoring of active volcanoes. The relationships among data obtained during the monitoring of active volcanoes and the processes simulated during the experiments in the laboratory using natural volcanic samples under controlled conditions will substantially improve the precision in volcano monitoring, the correlation of geophysical data and a better understanding of the volcanic processes, which will result in a more efficient evaluation of the volcanic hazards and an increase in the quality of the society protection.

Please visit http://meetings.copernicus.org/egu2011/home.html for details of the meeting.

Deadline for Receipt of Abstracts: 10 January 2011.

We hope to meet you in Vienna.

Best regards,

Hugo Delgado Granados, Leif Vogel, Bo Galle, Miguel Alatorre Ibarguengoitia
