Job openings that may interest members of the Volcano community:

The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology (NBMG), which is a research and public service unit of the University of Nevada - Reno (UNR) and the state geological survey, seeks geoscientists for two tenure-track faculty positions at the assistant professor level beginning on or after July 1, 2011.

one in ECONOMIC GEOLOGY and GEOTHERMAL SYSTEMS (with an application due date of December 23, 2010) and

one in QUATERNARY GEOLOGY, HYDROGEOLOGY, or 3D MODELING THAT INTEGRATES GEOPHYSICAL AND GEOLOGICAL OBSERVATIONS AND INTERPRETATIONS (with an application due date of January 31, 2011).

The first is looking for someone with a research background in one or more of the following disciplines:  economic geology, structural geology, igneous petrology, geochemistry, exploration geophysics, and hydrogeology.

The second is looking for someone with skills in any one of the following areas:
- Quaternary geology, geomorphology, and neotectonics (incorporating geologic mapping in applications related to hazards, engineering geology, or environmental geology)
- Hydrogeology, particularly involving fluid flow in fractured rocks utilizing information from detailed geologic mapping, geophysical observations, and drill-hole data
- 3D modelling that integrates geophysical and geological observations and interpretations (from a background in either structural geology or geophysics, but with a clear understanding of both).
