EGU 2011 Session: NH2.2/NH5.6/SSP3.3 Volcanogenic Tsunamis

Dear colleagues,
We included a new session on volcanogenic tsunamis in the next 2011 EGU programme (Vienna 03-08 April 2011). If you are interested in participating to the session, please consider submitting an abstract.

Session details:
Tsunamis generated by volcanic eruptions and flank instability appear as neglected hazards. They represent 25 % of all fatalities directly attributable to volcanoes during the last 250 years. This session aims to better characterise and model the source mechanisms of volcanic tsunamis, identify their related deposits, and to consider tsunamis in broader volcanic hazard studies.

As part of abstract submission this year, there will be a EUR 40 Abstract Processing Charge (APC) per abstract. This is to help address the issue of the 10-25% "no shows" per session, i.e. abstracts submitted but then not presented. The registration fees will be reduced to take into account the abstract fee, so that the total cost for registration + APC for someone submitting one abstract during the EGU2011 will be the same as the registration fees for the former assemblies in 2010 and 2009.
The deadline for the receipt of Abstracts is 10 Jan 2011. In case you would like to apply for support (see http://meetings.copernicus.org/egu2011/support_and_distinction/financial_support.html), please submit no later than 03 Dec 2010.
