***************************************************************************** From: John Chapman <John.Chapman@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> ***************************************************************************** Dear colleagues, Please note the following scientific session at the forthcoming AGU Joint Assembly with GAC, MAC, CGU, SEG, MSA, GS and IAH-CNC, to be held 24-27 May 2009, in Toronto, Canada. (http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja09/index.php). Although not specifically a volcanological session, workers in this field who make use of stable isotope analysis are encouraged to participate. V12: Innovative Applications of Stable Isotopes to Hydrothermal and High Temperature Processes Stable isotope analysis has been an essential component of the geoscientist's toolbox since the 1950s and has been successfully applied to many facets of the Earth Sciences. Despite this, and in part due to improvements in analytical technology, advances continue to be made in both traditional (e.g. O, C, S) and novel (e.g. Fe, Cu, Mo, Mg, Li) stable isotope systems. Such work is particularly applicable to the fields of volcanology, geochemistry and petrology and has created new perspectives on many unanswered questions within these disciplines. In this session we invite submissions that examine and elucidate innovative techniques and new applications utilizing the power of stable isotope analysis. The aim of this session is to draw together researchers operating in many fields, utilising a variety of isotope systems and analytical techniques, and to promote knowledge transfer and sharing of ideas between otherwise disparate research areas. The session is to be cosponsored b! y the Geological Association of Canada, the Mineralogical Association of Canada, and the Biogeosciences and Ocean Sciences sections of the AGU. We are therefore confident of a vibrant and illuminating range of submissions. (http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja09/program/scientific_session_search.php?show=detail&sessid=175) Abstracts are encouraged from any researcher interested in the expanding application of stable isotope analysis to geological systems, and from those who are developing novel analytical techniques. Please note that the abstract submission deadline is 4 March 2009, at 23:59 UT (GMT). (http://www.agu.org/meetings/ja09/program/abstract_submissions.php) Please feel free to forward this message to anybody who may have an interest in the session (e.g. Collaborators, students, etc.). Please also contact any of the conveners if you have any queries. On behalf of the conveners of session V12 I very much look forward to meeting you in Toronto!
