The Leibniz-Institute of Marine Sciences at the
Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel, IFM-GEOMAR, invites
applications for 1 Ph.D. position based at the Collaborative Research
Center SFB 574 "Volatiles and Fluids in Subduction Zones: Climate
Feedback and Trigger Mechanisms for Natural Disasters".

Research project:
The PhD project is focused on investigating the volatile budget of the
Central American and Chilean subduction zones using numerical methods.
New 3-D models will be used to better link subduction input to output
and to explore the role of subduction zones in the global water and
carbon cycles.

Requirements and training:
Candidates should have a background in geology or geophysics and an
interest in learning and applying numerical methods. The successful
candidate will have the opportunity to take part in the PhD-program of
the newly formed Integrated School of Ocean Sciences (ISOS) in Kiel,
which will provide him/her with a unique multidisciplinary education
in Earth sciences and computational analysis.
The position is limited until December 31st 2011. The Leibniz
Institute of Marine Sciences is an equal opportunity employer and
encourages female scientists to apply.

Contact and further information:
Applications should be sent before February 6th 2009 by email to Lars
Ruepke (lruepke@xxxxxxxxxxxxx). Further information on the research
institutes and ISOS can be found here:
