GNS Science is New Zealand's premier provider of geoscience information,
research and consultancy and incorporates the National Isotope Centre.

Volcano Geodesist Vacancy number 08/32

We are seeking a volcano geodesist to lead the development and application
of ground deformation technologies for New Zealand's active volcanoes. The
successful applicant will be partly working on the GeoNet project
(www.geonet.org.nz) to enhance our monitoring capability, and will also be
expected to develop research ideas to understand the deformation of the
diverse range of active volcanoes in New Zealand. The ideal candidate will
have:

- At least a MSc and preferably a PhD in geophysics with experience in
geodetic data processing and research
- Experience with remote volcano-geodesy data collection systems
- Demonstrated excellence in the analysis and/or interpretation and/or
modelling of geophysical data, particularly from cGPS and levelling
networks
- Specialist knowledge of ground deformation associated with volcanic
systems
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other scientists
- Enthusiasm and commitment to projects, and a high degree of care and
conscientiousness in their work
- Experience and enthusiasm to participate in fieldwork
- A willingness to develop an understanding of Maori relationship and
development issues and an interest in te reo Maori.

Volcanic Gas Geochemist Vacancy number 08/33

We are seeking a volcanic gas geochemist to lead the development,
application and research of geochemical remote sensing technologies for
New Zealand's active volcanoes. The ideal candidate will have:

- At least a MSc and preferably a PhD in gas geochemistry with experience in
geochemical data processing and research
- Experience with remote volcano-chemistry data collection systems
- Demonstrated excellence in the analysis and/or interpretation and/or
modelling of geochemical data, particularly of emissions from active
volcanic environments
- Specialist knowledge of gas geochemistry associated with volcanic systems
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with other scientists
- Enthusiasm and commitment to projects, and a high degree of care and
conscientiousness in their work
- Experience and enthusiasm to participate in fieldwork
- A willingness to develop an understanding of Maori relationship and
development issues and an interest in te reo Maori.
