Dear Volcanologists,

I am delighted to announce a new online service for the volcanology community:

http://www.pubvolc.net

PubVolc is a new online database of recent volcanology publications.
Authors (i.e. you!) can upload details of their recent journal
articles (http://www.pubvolc.net/submit.php5) where they can be viewed
by other users (http://www.pubvolc.net/archive.php5). At the end of
each month, a digest of all the articles submitted that month will be
sent to the volcano listserv, where it will reach thousands of other
volcanologists around the world.

One of the key aims of PubVolc is to improve access to recent research
for scientists in under-resourced institutions, which cannot afford
journal subscriptions. If you include the email address of the reprint
author when submitting an article (the address is held internally on
the PubVolc server, and never revealed to anyone) then interested
readers of PubVolc can click on a link to request a reprint of your
article.

PubVolc offers three benefits:

1) For authors: your article will reach the global volcanology
community rapidly, even if it is published outside the usual
volcanology literature.

2) For researchers: keeping up-to-date with recent research will be
significantly easier, saving you time.

3) For the under-resourced: you can request reprints direct from the
authors even if you do not have journal subscriptions.

To get the ball rolling, publications from JVGR and Bull. Volc. for
January, February and March, 2008 have already been added to the
database. Now it is up to the user-community to continue to add new
publications. Up until the end of this month (30th April) you will be
able to add articles from 2007 and 2008. From May 1st onwards, only
articles from 2008 will be accepted. To read more about PubVolc, how
to upload your articles, and what kinds of articles are accepted,
visit http://www.pubvolc.net/about.php5

Best wishes,

Ed Llewellin.
