Horwell <claire.horwell@xxxxxxxxxxxx> *************************************************************************** Dear All, Amongst all the emails that you are receiving for the IAVCEI GA, I hope you might consider whether your work might potentially have implications for the assessment of health hazards. If so, please submit an abstract to: 4-d Responding to volcanic health hazards Responding to volcanic health hazards needs to be part of integrated contingency planning for human and natural disasters in those countries with active volcanoes. Local crises may arise in repose periods as well as during eruptions, and multi-disciplinary methodologies need to be developed to perform rapid health risk assessments for a wide range of volcanic phenomena. The session will focus on the following topics for presentation of case-studies related to human and animal health: - Plume emissions: hazard and risk assessment - Soil gases - Groundwater geochemistry - Ash particle toxicology - Fluoride and fluorosis - Disaster management - Injury prevention - Mental health - Health of livestock - Human paleopathology, historic and pre-historic eruptions - Eruption crises in complex emergencies Conveners: P. Baxter, Institute of Public Health, University of Cambridge, UK, pjb21@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx C. Horwell, Institute of Hazard and Risk Research, University of Durham, UK, claire.horwell@xxxxxxxxxxxx Abstract submission deadline: 1 April 2008. See you there!
